For every normal adult, the freedom to choose is what makes human beings different from other living creatures. How we use this freedom or power of choice has a very vital role in who we become or what we make out of our lives. Every adult has the authority to choose how many hours to sleep in a day, and how many hours to work in a day. We have the power to choose our friends and associations. These choices determine whether we become successful or ordinary. A tree does not have the privilege to choose. Every tree will grow to the full extent of its reach. A tree only stops growing once it exhausts its manure. Human beings do not grow to the full extent of our reach because of the power of choice. Choice sometimes could be a limiting factor for success.
Every person is a product of choices he or she made in the past. Successful people become successful as a result of making the right choices. Likewise, many destinies with potential for greatness have been destroyed as a result of just one wrong choice.
The current United States of America President, Barack Obama was abandoned by his father and later by his mother. His mother left him to the care of his maternal grandparent as she went off to live with her new husband. Obama struggled, as a young adult to reconcile social perceptions of his multiracial heritage.
There were two likely choices available to a boy with Obama’s background. One choice was to become a drug addict in other to forget his pitiable story of broken family and abandonment by parents. Another choice was to rise above the discouraging background and decide to be successful anyhow. Thank God Obama chose the latter.
Success is a choice just as failure is also by choice. Someone who desires to be successful must be selective in the choices he or she makes. The outcome of every choice is either positive or negative. There is no neutral outcome for any choice. To be successful, ensure that every choice you make has a positive outcome.
